OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar accidentally calls Dots AI agent ‘Muse’ during live interview, footage goes viral

Amid the growing conversations about AI agents, OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar briefly mixed up the company’s latest AI agent with a Meta product during a CNBC interview, referring to OpenAI’s Dots as “Muse”. The slip is now trending on X and has quickly drawn attention online, with some users pointing out the irony as the two companies increasingly compete in the AI agent space.
SurveyFriar was discussing OpenAI’s plans for Dots when she used the name “Muse” while explaining how the company’s AI agents are designed to help users become more productive. She described the agents as systems that can proactively “tap you on the shoulder” and help users get things done rather than simply waiting for instructions.
What is OpenAI’s Dots AI agent?
At DevDay 2026, OpenAI introduced Dots as an autonomous AI agent aimed primarily at businesses. The system is powered by the company’s GPT-6 Astra technology and is designed to work across corporate applications and workflows.
OpenAI says Dots can connect with more than 4,000 applications and continue working on multiple projects with limited human intervention. It can, for example, analyse customer feedback, work on software fixes, test those changes and submit pull requests for review.

The agent can also communicate with employees through platforms such as ChatGPT, Slack and Microsoft Teams, allowing teams to interact with it as it works through assigned tasks.
How is Meta Muse different?
Meta’s Muse, meanwhile, is positioned as a personal AI agent designed to help users manage tasks and complete goals across the applications they use. The system can reportedly handle tasks such as sending emails and booking travel, while also taking on more complicated objectives that require browsing websites, filling out forms and carrying out several steps independently. Muse also integrates with Stripe’s Link payment system, allowing it to make purchases with protections provided through the payment platform.
However, both OpenAI and Meta are targeting different use cases. OpenAI has positioned Dots around enterprise workflows and Meta Muse is focused on personal tasks and everyday digital activities.
