Google Doodle carries a tune to celebrate French music composer Claude Debussy's 151st birth anniversary.
Today’s Google Doodle is paying tribute to French music composer Claude Debussy. The animated Doodle highlights a river-side scene in the moonlight with Debussy’s ‘Claire de lune’ music playing in the background as the scene progresses.
The ‘Clair de lune’ played on the Google doodle is a composition from Claude Debussy’s early period. ‘Claire de lune’ in French, means the ‘The Bright Moon’ and the doodle aptly showcases a moonlight riverside scene with a star studded sky, with flickering streets lights, windmill, boats, cycles, cars and balloons. The scene ends with two people meeting under a red umbrella in the rain while rowing their boats.
Claude Debussy is one of the most renowned musicians associated with impressionist music. He was born in France, 22 August 1862 and began piano lessons at the age of seven. In 1871 he drew the attention of Marie Mauté de Fleurville, a pupil of Frédéric Chopin and later studied spent 11 years at the Paris Conservatoire.
Debussy won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1884, at just 22 years of age for his cantata L’Enfant prodigue (The Prodigal Child). His work in the middle period of his life was influenced by the work of the German composer Richard Wagner which is highlighted in his La damoiselle élue and the 1889 piece Cinq poèmes de Charles Baudelaire. Debussy died on March 25, 1918 in Paris from cancer.
