GitHub down: Thousands of users unable to access the platform
GitHub faced a major outage, affecting users in India, the US and other regions.
Downdetector recorded 849 reports in India and 2,100 in the US at the peak.
GitHub said several services were affected and it was investigating the issue.
GitHub down: Users across India and the US faced problems accessing GitHub on Monday evening as the coding platform reported a major service disruption. Reports of the outage began rising around 6:40 PM IST, according to Downdetector, with the number of complaints climbing sharply within minutes. GitHub’s status page also showed several services facing problems, confirming that the issue was not limited to a group of users. For developers, teams and businesses that rely on GitHub to store, share and work on code, the disruption affected several parts of the platform. The company said it was investigating the cause and would continue to share updates as more information became available.

Downdetector showed a sudden rise in user reports in India. At around 7:12 PM IST, the site recorded 849 reports, which was the peak for the country. About 80 per cent of users said they were unable to access the GitHub website, while 14 per cent reported issues with the GitHub app. Around 7 percent said they were unable to log in. Some users also reported that they could not push code to the platform.

The outage was also reported in the United States and other parts of the world. In the US, Downdetector reports peaked at 2,100 at around 7:12 PM IST. About 75 per cent of users reported issues with the website, while 14 per cent faced problems with the app. Around 11 percent said they were unable to log in to the platform.
What did GitHub say?
GitHub confirmed that it was facing problems across several services. In an update at 7:45 PM IST, the company said web experiences and API traffic were seeing error rates of around 20 per cent. Archive downloads and raw repository content downloads were facing an error rate of about 50 per cent.
Earlier updates said pull requests, issues, webhooks and actions were experiencing degraded performance. GitHub said it was investigating the root cause and would continue to provide updates.

Users on X reacted to the GitHub outage with a mix of frustration and humour. One user complained about waiting to merge a pull request, writing, ‘Waiting for 50 mins to merge my PR because GitHub is down.’ Another user expressed growing frustration, saying, ‘GitHub, your whole platform is down. It should be hard to figure out the issue. What the hell is going on? We are approaching nearly one hour of down time.’
One user joked about the timing of the outage, writing, ‘I’ve got some time; I think I might log into my project and get some work done! Oh, GitHub is down again.’ Another user took a lighter view of the situation, posting, ‘Yay, GitHub is finally down during work hours in my timezone.’
