Apple’s iOS 27 may reportedly bring five big upgrades to iPhone

Even though iOS 26 is still new for most users, reports suggest that Apple is already looking ahead to iOS 27. Apple is expected to tease the new iOS update in the upcoming WWDC event in June. The latest rumours suggest that with the new iOS, Apple is looking forward to polishing what already exists, making the system faster, cleaner, and more reliable. The update is also expected to prepare the software for new kinds of iPhones, including a foldable model. With design tweaks, smarter assistance, and new services in the pipeline, iOS 27 could quietly become one of the most important updates in years for everyday use across phones and future devices worldwide soon now.

iOS 27 ‘Snow Leopard’ update

Apple’s iOS 27 is also expected to be a cautious and stable update. Sources claim that with this new update Apple is looking for the development of a stable and performing operating system rather than adding innovative features.

Moreover, it’s reported that the engineers are reviewing iOS 26 to look for some glitches and some areas that are inefficient, which may cause a difference in performance. The aim is to improve the performance of the iPhone, like making the device smoother, more responsive, and more reliable, in the manner in which the ‘Snow Leopard’ version of macOS improved.

iPhone Fold

Apple is rumoured to unveil its first foldable iPhone model in the year 2026. The upcoming iPhone design is expected to consist of two screens, which will enable users to switch between a small screen and a large screen. In the context of the two screen technologies, iOS 27 is likely being built to ensure that applications adapt to the two screens in a way that offers a smooth user experience.

Liquid Glass

Apple is said to be developing new designs for their Liquid Glass feature after considering feedback from their customers who initially reacted to their launch with iOS 26. Although some changes had been incorporated in updates such as iOS 26.1 and iOS 26.2, which were smaller improvements for the operating system itself, the new iOS 27 will give Apple a chance to bring a wide array of changes to their operating system.

Siri to get a makeover

As we previously reported, Siri may get a major functional revamp with the upcoming iOS 26.4 update. However, the latest rumours also suggest that the tech giant wants to redesign the look of the virtual personal assistant with the forthcoming iOS 27. Although the details regarding the redesigned Siri are still unconfirmed, the initial reports indicate the virtual personal assistant may receive an animated look, possibly in the manner of the Mac Finder logo.

Apple Intelligence to get smarter

Apple is reportedly developing a new feature for ‌Siri‌ called ‘World Knowledge’ to further improve the capabilities of Apple Intelligence. This functionality is designed to provide users with information on general search queries, effectively allowing ‌Siri‌ to act more like a comprehensive knowledge assistant.

The feature is expected to be included in the ‌Siri‌ update for iOS 26.4. However, if Apple decides not to roll it out in that particular update, it’s possible that the ‘World Knowledge’ feature could instead be introduced later, potentially as part of iOS 27.

New Health+

As per the latest leaks, Apple may also introduce a paid Health+ subscription alongside the launch of iOS 27. This new service is said to improve the existing Health app and is also anticipated to provide a detailed description of numerous health parameters and trends derived from a user’s devices. In addition to helping users better understand their data, Health+ may also offer personalised insights and practical guidance to the users for improving their overall health and well-being.

Satellite features in iOS 27

Apple is also believed to be adding new satellite features, which may be introduced with iOS 27. Some of these features include:

  • Operating Apple Maps via a satellite link
  • Sending photos through Messages over satellite
  • A satellite API framework for third-party developers
  • Satellite support over 5G networks
  • Satellite connections that work without a clear line of sight to the sky

Some of these satellite features might require new hardware, whereas some, such as Apple Maps via Satellite, could work on current models. However, one thing to keep in mind is that Apple is not in a position to roll out this functionality whenever it desires, as these features would also require Apple’s satellite partner Globalstar to make changes in their backend as well.

iOS 27 launch timeline (Expected)

Apple is expected to preview iOS 27 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event in June. Following the event, the company will roll out the new iOS version to beta testers and early users. The operating system is then expected to be released to the general public in September 2026, alongside the launch of new iPhones.
