Amazon has cut jobs again with the latest round of layoffs reportedly affecting fewer than 1,000 employees. Employees were informed about the cuts on Tuesday through emails, with several workers discussing the layoffs on an internal Slack channel, according to a Business Insider report. The affected roles reportedly include positions in customer service, marketplace support and engineering within Amazon’s retail business. Employees in India and the UK were also among those affected. The latest job cuts come as Amazon continues to reduce costs while increasing its spending on AI and related infrastructure.
SurveyThe layoffs mainly affect Amazon’s Stores business, the company confirmed to Business Insider. An Amazon spokesperson said, “We’re always looking at our team structures to ensure we’re best set up to move fast as we innovate for customers.”
“We’ve adjusted parts of our Stores business because we believe this structure will better enable us to deliver on our priorities. As part of these changes, we’ve made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles, and we’re committed to supporting affected employees through their transition.”
The latest cuts have added to concerns among Amazon’s corporate employees. Workers had already been expecting another round of layoffs after the company announced major job reductions over the past year.

Amazon eliminated around 30,000 jobs late last year and early this year as part of an effort to lower costs and simplify its organisation. The company is now also increasing investment in AI. It is preparing to spend a record $220 billion on data centres, chips and other infrastructure linked to AI.
Some managers also reduced long-term planning because they expected teams and business priorities could change, according to the report.
After Tuesday’s layoffs, employees raised several questions in the Slack channel. These included severance pay, medical leave and access to internal job openings. Some workers also asked whether more layoffs were still expected in other countries.
