Top Games in March: Tomb Raider, SimCity, BioShock Infinite and more
HIGHLIGHTS

It that time of the month once again when we list the top games expect to launch in the month.

Rather than giving you an introduction to how the month of March will bring about the black hole in your wallet, we thought we’d just throw some random names around like the Tomb Raider reboot, God of War: Ascension, the new Gears of War, and a small game called BioShock Infinite. Get the point?

March will be a month of exciting games, starting with today, which sees the launch of Tomb Raider, an installment which will tell the tale of how Lara Croft came to be the lithe and fearless adventurer most of us have come to know. The new game, essentially a reboot, has been made by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, and published by Square Enix for all PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

SimCity, the iconic urban development simulation that kept a whole generation enthralled, also gets a brand new reboot this month, with impressive new dynamics, realism, and graphics. The game is releasing for the PC today, and has been developed by Maxis for EA.

Check out our list of the top eight games we think you must check out in March:

1.Tomb Raider

A reboot for one of the most successful franchises in gaming, you once again take on the role of the sexy Lara Croft. This time around however, it is an origins story. Lara is a young girl on her journey to become the Tomb Raider we have come to love from the past games in the franchise. The game puts players in an open world island and Lara has access to a number of weapons such as a bow and arrow and the guns she picks up on the way. The game will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and the PC.

Date of release (Global): March 5

2.God of War: Ascension

The name says it all. In God of War Ascension, you once again don’t the role of Kratos, the badass Spartan solder with history. Those familiar with the franchise will feel right at home here but there is a twist. This time around, the game has brought with it multiplayer. Like most, we were skeptical as to how the idea of multiplayer will get executed in a game like this but we were impressed when we saw it. You can check out our God of War Ascension multiplayer beta review here.

The story of the game takes place six months after Kratos kills his wife and child. This time around, gamers will see the more human side of the lead protagonist but that doesn’t mean that he wont be a badass when it comes to killing people. From what we’ve seen of the game, it looks better than God of War III and that is saying something.

Date of release (Global): March 13

3.Gears of War: Judgment

Taking gamers back before the events of the first Gears of War game, the events in Judgment take place immediately after Emergence Day this time around; players don the role of Damon Baird as they try to save the city Halvo Bay from the Locust hoard. This time around, the game brings with it a new mode, OverRun, which pits Locust and COG soldiers in a head-to-head battle. The game is an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Date of release (Global): March 19

4.BioShock Infinite

From the underground city of Rapture, this time players will see the floating city of Columbia. Set in 1912, gamers don the role of Booker DeWitt, a disgraced former private detective who’s picked up a new case. His mission this time around is to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman who’s gone missing and return her unharmed. Along the way, you will uncover and unravel the mysteries of the floating city. Bioshock Infinite will launch for the PC, Xbox 360 and the PC.

Date of release (Global): March 26

5.StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm

The next expansion pack in the Star Craft universe, Heart of the Swarm is part two of the three packs of the game. The game is a PC exclusive. The expansion will include additional units and multiplayer changes from Wings of Liberty, as well as a continuing campaign focusing on the Zerg race. Gamers will have access to an additional 20 missions.

Date of release (Global): March 12

6. SimCity

The sixth major release in the city building game, SimCity puts you back in charge of building and maintaining a city. This time around, players have the power to change the world together in the games multiplayer mode. Your world will coexist with that of your friends. Players will also have access to climate change and natural disaster, which will affect the gameplay. Sim City will be available for the PC only.

Date of release (Global): March 5

7.Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2

Powered by CryEngine 3, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is expected to a very good-looking game. You once again take on the role of a world-class sniper in this first person stealthy shooter game. The game also has a multiplayer mode where snipers can take on other snipers. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 will release for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Date of release (Global): March 12

8.Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel

The third game in the franchise, Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel takes the two operative, Alpha and Bravo who work for a PMC, to the streets of Mexico. The game is best enjoyed when played with a friend as it is intended to be two guys versus an army throughout the game. If you are alone however, the second character is controlled via the AI. The game is a third person cover based shooter. Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel will release for PS3 and Xbox 360.
