WhatsApp rolls out a new DND API and linked devices for Android tablets for beta testers: Reports
HIGHLIGHTS

Beta testers on WhatsApp for Android(v2.22.24.17) now have access to a new Do Not Disturb API.

The Meta-owned platform is working on WhatsApp for Android tablets.

Both features could be available to users soon.

WhatsApp is always adding new features to its app on various platforms, to improve the user experience and add new users to the service. Recently, the app has begun experimenting with a new API for Do Not Disturb mode and a new version for Android tablets. Here is everything we know about the upcoming features on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp users could see a new label for calls missed due to DND mode

As per a report published by WhatsApp updates tracker WABetaInfo on November 11, 2022, certain beta testers on WhatsApp for Android(v2.22.24.17) now have access to a new Do Not Disturb API. As seen in the images shared by the publication, the new feature shows a message that reads, "Silenced by Do Not Disturb." The feature makes it easier to understand if users missed a call due to their DND settings.

Previously, if users missed a voice or a video call due to DND, WhatsApp did not inform them explicitly. Although the feature is available to some beta testers, WhatsApp users can check by enabling DND on their phone, asking their friend to call them and then looking for the message.

If there's a new label below the entry in the call log that says "Silenced by Do Not Disturb," the user has this feature. It is important to highlight that the feature only shows users if they have missed a call due to DND mode – the caller won't know whether DND is enabled on users' devices. Although the feature was initially rolled out to beta testers, it should be available for more users.

Android tablet users could get a dedicated WhatsApp version soon

Per another report by WABetaInfo, the instant messaging platform is working on WhatsApp for Android tablets. The publication shared that WhatsApp was rolling out a version that enabled linking an Android tablet to a WhatsApp account. It also informed that WhatsApp was developing a banner to announce the feature.

Although the banner might not be available now, WhatsApp now has a presentation screen for WhatsApp on Android tablets. As seen in the images shared by the publication, the new presentation screen shows up within the linked devices section after a user selects the option "linked devices beta."

To check whether users can access the feature rolled out in WhatsApp for Android, beta v2.22.24.18, they should download the latest beta update available on the Google Play Store. If it is available, a QR code screen will show up after opening WhatsApp on a tablet, scanning which users can start using WhatsApp on their Android tablet.
