RIM lowers minimum price for BlackBerry apps ahead of BB10 OS launch
The price drop comes shortly before RIM's January 30 event for the all-new Blackberry 10 OS.
Research in Motion (RIM) has announced that the minimum price for apps for Blackberry phones will be reduced globally. The new minimum price will vary for different countries but RIM did reveal that in the UK, that price will be £0.75 (Rs. 63 approx.), a drop from the original £1, while in France, apps will not cost lower than €0.89, whereas earlier that price was €0.99.
RIM made the announcement through its Blackberry developer blog. The blog further informs app developers, “This price tier update includes updated currency exchange rates and VAT requirements. The goal of this adjustment is to ensure prices are in line with currency fluctuations and ensure content within BlackBerry World is competitive. The price change is completely automatic and will not impact the availability of your content items to customers. You are not required to take any action.”
RIM is hard at work preparing for the January 30 event, where it will launch the all new Blackberry 10 OS, along with a range of handsets running the new OS. RIM also recently revealed that it was re-branding the Blackberry App World store as simply Blackberry World, and the store would now not only provide access to apps but also other content such as music and videos.
