Best video doorbells you can get for your home this diwali

Diwali, it means that you will have an unceasing front door. Uninvited family members, couriers with hampers of presents, and deliveries of sweets will arrive even while you are stuck in traffic. A normal doorbell will not tell you anything about it. A video doorbell allows you to see who it is, communicate with them from anywhere, and record everything. Here are five video doorbells you should buy this Diwali.

Qubo Video Doorbell Pro: ₹9,000

Qubo is one of the devices that I’ve tried, and it deserves all the praise for its simplicity. Installation didn’t take more than a couple of minutes, the interface is user-friendly, and you get notifications instantly, which is crucial if a delivery guy starts to move away. Live feed, two-way voice communication, and chime – you will be able to get them without even reading a manual. Plus, it is produced by an Indian company, so all the help you might need is just a phone call away.

Godrej SeeThru Pro Nova: ₹21,500

This one I’ve tried as well, but it operates on another principle altogether. Godrej is the name that Indians have associated with security products – locks, safes, etc., and the SeeThru Pro Nova fits into the picture quite well. The device itself looks like it was meant to last long and the nationwide service network of the company gives an extra feeling of safety. Its price is twice as high as the one of the Qubo. Is this worth it? For an entry door of a detached villa, yes; for an apartment, not really.

Google Nest Doorbell: ₹18,000

Nest is by far the most well-thought-out device here. The vertical 3:4 ratio means it captures the full figure of the visitor as well as whatever package they have brought along. This is a great move by Nest as most of the doorbells fail to capture the one thing you are most interested in. All the smarts here are housed in the Google Home application. So, if your home already has Google speakers and displays, then it will fit like a glove. It can even differentiate between a car and a visitor.

Tapo has everything that TP-Link usually offers – a lot of features at a relatively affordable price. The battery allows not to worry about rewiring, which is good for rented apartments and people who don’t want to mess with doorbell wiring. You get a chime in the pack, which allows hearing the ringing in the apartment without additional expenses. The product provides local storage, which means that there will be no fees each month. Don’t forget that each additional guest discharges the battery.

CP-Plus CP-L23: ₹5,000

The most affordable among the five and a reasonable starting point. CP-Plus is a brand of surveillance systems known to Indian shop owners and housing societies, ensuring that there is a large service network and easy availability of spare parts. The app will be less sophisticated and have fewer features compared to its competitors. This is perfect for use as an additional door or gate or for your parents’ place when you just need to see who has pressed the bell button. If you need more sophisticated notifications that distinguish between humans and animals and packages, invest more.

What to check before you pay

However, there are four issues that you should take note of before making any payments. Whereas battery-operated doorbells can be mounted within minutes but have to be charged, the wired ones will never be discharged, but they require installation. Monthly subscription plans apply for cloud-based storage services, but a microSD card option does not have monthly charges; however, if someone steals your doorbell, chances are that he will steal the card too. The performance of a doorbell depends on the quality of your wireless connection at the front door; therefore, go outside with your mobile device and test the connection before drilling anything.
