Sony could finally ditch its boxy design and launch a bezel-less phone next year
HIGHLIGHTS

If a leaked screenshot is to be believed, Sony will launch a bezel-less phone next year which will be the successor to the Xperia XZ Premium.

The biggest complaints by users about Sony’s smartphone lineup was its ancient boxy design. While most phone makers continued shrinking its bezels, Sony stuck to its so-called OmniBalance design philosophy. However, multiple reports started doing the rounds about a complete design overhaul in its 2018 lineup of phones. Turns out, it is actually happening.

According to a leaked screenshot spotted on Reddit, Sony is all set to ditch the bezels around the display of the upcoming Sony Xperia XZ Premium (review) successor. Codenamed H8541, the phone measures 149 x 74 x 7.5mm, making it smaller and thinner than the Xperia XZ Premium, despite having a larger 5.7-inch 4K HDR display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top.

The H8451 is also equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The phone will also apparently launch with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. A larger 3,420mAh battery powers the phone.

If the screenshots are proven to be true, we might indeed see a brand new design from Sony. The Xperia lineup of phones are otherwise capable offerings, marred only by a stagnant design. With that changing, Sony is all set to come of age and take on the best in the competition.
