Samsung One UI 8 rollout for Galaxy S22 lineup paused, here’s why
One UI 8 rollout for Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra halted globally after one week.
Users in Europe and India report mixed experiences, with some facing battery and performance issues.
Android 16 will be the last software update for Galaxy S22 series.
Samsung has been aggressively rolling out its Android 16 based One UI 8 for the last generation devices. Last week, the Galaxy S22 lineup including the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra started receiving the One UI 8 update. The users across Europe and parts of Asia have posted on X about receiving the latest software update. However, the rollout came to an unexpected halt.
SurveyOn Samsung’s servers, firmware builds S908EXXUCGYIF (One UI 8) and S908BXXUIGYI7 have been rolled back to earlier One UI 7 versions, according to a number of reports, including user findings on X (formerly Twitter). This essentially halts the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra models’ over-the-air (OTA) update.
After installing the updated software, some users have complained of battery drain and inconsistent performance, though Samsung has not released an official statement explaining the suspension. Others have claimed that their devices are working normally, implying that the problems may not be widespread.
According to sources, Samsung may have chosen to halt the rollout until a hotfix is available after spotting a possible bug or compatibility issue. So far, there have been no reports of data loss or device bricking, but the company appears to be taking steps to ensure stability across all regions before proceeding.
It is recommended that users who have already updated to One UI 8 keep using their devices normally. Those who haven’t gotten the update will have to wait until Samsung starts rolling it out again, probably after the required fixes are made.
The Galaxy S22 series, which debuted in 2022, will receive Android 16 as its final major operating system update, fulfilling Samsung’s promise of four years of software upgrades and five years of security patches.
