India’s gaming scene is growing faster than ever. From kids playing on smartphones to professional players competing in big esports tournaments, gaming has become part of daily life for millions. In an exclusive interview with Digit, Subind Kumar, Vice President and Country Manager at Sandisk, spoke about the importance of storage in India’s growing gaming landscape.
“India’s gaming landscape has evolved tremendously, driven by affordable smartphones, greater internet penetration, and a young, digital-first population eager to explore gaming as a hobby and a viable career path,” Kumar told Digit.
In this dynamic ecosystem, storage plays a critical role. Whether it’s increasing game file sizes, in-game recordings for streaming, or the need for faster load times for competitive play, reliable, high-capacity, and high-speed storage solutions are essential.
Why storage matters in gaming
Storage may not be the most visible part of a gaming setup, but it has a big effect on how smooth and enjoyable a game feels. “Storage is central to a seamless gameplay experience,” Kumar said. “Flash storage and SSDs dramatically reduce load times, allowing games to boot faster and maps to render seamlessly.”
Gamers are willing to spend more
A few years ago, many gamers in India preferred cheaper gear. But now, more people are ready to invest in better equipment that improves performance. “We see strong SSD adoption driven by two primary factors: the rise of gaming and the growing streaming ecosystem,” Kumar explained.
He added that mobile gamers are now opting for high-capacity microSD cards and portable SSDs, while PC gamers are investing in high-capacity and high-performance gaming SSDs like WD_Black SN7100 and SN8100.

Helping creators and esports players
It’s not just about playing games. Many people also stream, record, and create content. “Our portfolio for creators is centered on delivering high-performance, high-capacity, compatible, and reliable solutions that enable today’s creators to actualize their aspirations,” Kumar said.
For professional esports players, storage speed can make a real difference. “High-speed NVMe SSDs minimize load times, enabling players to get into games faster and reducing stutter during gameplay, which is critical during competitive matches,” he added.
Making high-performance storage accessible
Sandisk wants gamers across India to have access to quality storage. “We believe that high-performance gaming should be accessible to every gamer,” Kumar said. The company works with channel partners, system builders, and online stores to reach players in both big cities and smaller towns. It also runs campaigns to help gamers understand how the right storage can improve performance.
What’s next for Sandisk in Indian gaming market
India is an important market for Sandisk, and the company plans to introduce new gaming-focused products. “We understand the evolving needs and challenges and develop solutions to overcome these barriers,” Kumar said. Sandisk plans to keep launching high-capacity, high-performance, and energy-efficient storage solutions for gamers on all types of devices.

Biggest myth about storage
According to Kumar, one of the biggest myths among gamers is that storage is just for saving games. “This is changing quickly,” Kumar said. “Storage plays a pivotal role in defining the gaming experience. The right storage solution can drastically reduce load times, enable faster in-game asset streaming, and deliver smoother gameplay overall.”
He added that modern games are larger and more complex than ever, and they need fast data transfer to run well. “Storage isn’t just an afterthought; it’s a core part of performance,” he said.
As India’s gaming community keeps growing, Sandisk wants to make sure every player, from casual mobile gamers to competitive professionals, has the speed, space, and reliability they need to stay ahead.
