According to Korean news agency Yonhap, the foldable smartphone will release along with the Galaxy S10 5G model at a special event.

Samsung recently showcased its most-awaited foldable smartphone, which is apparently called the Galaxy F, at its annual Samsung Developers Conference in San Francisco. At the announcement, the device was showcased under a black coloured cover and dim lighting to hide the design details of the handset. The company did not even announce the launch date/time and the price of the device. Now a Korean publication has claimed that the foldable smartphone could be launched in March and may be priced a whopping $1770 (1,29,000 directly converted).

Citing industry sources, Korean news agency Yonhap claims that Samsung Electronics plans to launch its first foldable smartphone in March, along with a 5G-enabled Galaxy S10. “The South Korean tech giant plans to unveil the flagship Galaxy S10 smartphone in February, followed by the presumed foldable Galaxy F and another edition of the Galaxy S10 that runs on the 5G network in March,” the agency said.

The news comes after DJ Koh, CEO of Samsung's Mobile Business Division said that the company will manufacture at least one million units of the handset, but he did not share any information on the launch date, saying the device will “definitely launch” in the first half of 2019. “Given Samsung Electronics' product capacity, for a flagship product we produce a minimum of one million units. For the foldable phone, initial stock will be over one million units and if the market reaction is positive, we can produce more,” ZDNet quoted the executive as saying.

Industry watchers reportedly said that Samsung is expected to showcase the foldable smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in February, ahead of the official launch the following month. The much-awaited foldable smartphone, however, is not expected to support the 5G network. “While the price of the foldable smartphone has not been decided, industry watchers said it may cost around 2 million won (US$1,770). The steep price is expected to limit sales,” the agency said.

Samsung ‘s foldable smartphone uses an Infinity Flex Display, which measures 7.3 inches with a 1536 x 2152 resolution with an aspect ratio of 4.2:3 when it is in an unfolded state. When it folds in half to reveal a second display, called “cover display” on the front, it functions as a 4.58-inch phone with a resolution of 840 x 1960 pixels with an aspect ratio of 21:9. Samsung says that the phone can be folded up to fit into a pocket. Samsung has also collaborated with Google to develop new UX for its foldable smartphone.
