OriginOS 6: What’s new

The OriginOS 6 is based on Android 16 and features a new design language called Origin Design, which unifies colour, shape, icons, fonts, and depth for a more cohesive visual experience. One of the biggest pain points of Funtouch OS users was that the UI and experience felt cluttered and inconsistent. The OriginOS 6 tried to address that with translucent elements, layered shadows, and dynamic lighting through features such as Gradual Blur, Dynamic Glow, and Translucent Colour. Vivo has also introduced a new system font, Vivo Sans, which supports over 40 languages and variable weight adjustments.

The OriginOS 6 is powered by the Origin Smooth Engine, a system-wide optimisation layer designed to enhance responsiveness and resource management. Vivo claims up to 18.5% faster app cold-start speeds, 10.5% improved frame-rate stability, and 106% faster data loading under heavy workloads. The new Dual Rendering Architecture further boosts animation performance by 35%, maintaining smoother transitions and visuals during multitasking.

The 8+1 Ultra-Core Computing System prioritises essential tasks to keep apps responsive, while Memory Fusion allows more background processes to stay active. Vivo’s Snap-Up Engine is designed to speed up high-demand actions like ticket booking by dynamically reallocating computing resources.

OriginOS 6 top features

OriginOS 6 introduces several new features, including Origin Island, which makes use of the punch-hole notch and is integrated with Android 16’s Live Updates API. It provides real-time updated and contextual suggestions, allowing users to perform quick actions such as Copy & Go (copying data to instantly call, message, or save a contact) and Drag & Go (dragging items like photos to other apps for continuation).

The OriginOS 6 update also includes Flip Cards for lock screens that shift dynamically with device tilt, a customisable Lock Screen Grid, and a new 4×7 Home Screen Grid layout. Additionally, system apps such as iManager, Origin Health, and Immersive Weather have been redesigned for better task visibility.

In addition to Gemini and Circle to Search, AI-powered tools form a major part of the new release. Features include:

  • AI Retouch: combines erase, expand, and enhance tools for image editing
  • AI Creation: assists with writing, summarisation, and proofreading
  • DocMaster: enables intelligent document editing for PDFs and Word files
  • AI Search: supports natural language queries across apps and system data
  • AI Captions: offers real-time speech-to-text transcription and translation

The update improves power efficiency through reducing background consumption by up to 30mA for typical users and up to 90mA for heavy users. Vivo also reports a 10–20% CPU efficiency gain, potentially extending battery life by around 30 minutes under certain conditions.

The new Private Space feature allows users to isolate sensitive apps and files, supporting dual app instances for separating personal and work use. Security has been strengthened under the vivo Security framework, which focuses on on-device intelligence, transparency, and data minimisation.

Cross-device functionality has also been expanded. The Office Kit and Connection Center features enable one-tap file transfers, task handoff, and screen mirroring between Vivo phones, PCs, and other compatible devices.
