You can now use Perplexity AI as new search option in Mozilla Firefox, here’s how
Perplexity AI offers chat-style answers with cited sources instead of traditional search links.
Users can set Perplexity as their default engine or switch via Firefox’s unified search bar.
It also rolled out browser profiles and testing Google Lens like feature.
Mozilla is now expanding its browser AI capabilities by introducing the Perplexity AI as a new search option in Firefox. Unlike other companies that build entirely new AI browsers, Mozilla aims to offer users the choice, allowing them to integrate AI into their existing web experience rather than forcing them to switch.
SurveyThe company confirmed on Tuesday that Perplexity AI will now be available to Firefox desktop users worldwide, following positive feedback from previous regional tests in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany. The feature is expected to arrive on mobile devices in the coming months.
Once activated, Perplexity provides a chat-style search experience, displaying summarised answers with source citations rather than a traditional list of links. Users can access it through Firefox’s unified search bar or make it the default engine in their browser’s settings.
“This addition reflects our shared commitment to choice: You decide when to use an AI answer engine, or if you want to use it at all. Available globally, Perplexity can be found in the unified search button in the address bar. We’ll be bringing Perplexity to mobile in the coming months. And as always, privacy matters. Perplexity maintains strict prohibitions against selling or sharing personal data,” the company stated in its blog post.
In addition to AI integration, Mozilla is making browser profiles available to all users, allowing them to easily switch between different browsing configurations for work, school, and personal use. The company is also continuing to test visual search via Google Lens for users who have set Google as their default search provider on desktop.
The company aims to introduce a few more features to make the browsing even smarter.
