HIGHLIGHTS

Manu Kumar Jain will also continue to serve as Managing Director of Xiaomi India. The elevation comes after Hugo Barra announced his exit from the company.

Manu Kumar Jain, the India Head of Xiaomi has been elevated to the position of Vice President. The Chinese technology company has promoted Manu Jain, who has been leading the India operations, to the global position. He will also continue to serve as Managing Director of Xiaomi India. However, his exact role on the global scheme of things isn't known as of now. Xiaomi had earlier announced that Xiang Wang, the company's senior VP will take over from Barra. Perhaps Jain will serve under him.

Hugo Barra, Xiaomi's international face and former Global VP announced his plans to leave the organisation last month. He spent three and a half years with Xiaomi and is now heading the VR developments at Facebook. Manu Jain joined Xiaomi in 2014 after co-founding Jabong India. He was constantly seen alongside Hugo Barra in India.

With Barra's departure, Xiaomi has lost a prominent face. Since he joined Xiaomi, the company has grown to become the largest smartphone brand online in India. With Manu Jain's elevation, Xiaomi is sending a clear message that India remains its key market outside China.

Under Manu Jain, Xiaomi India has crossed $1 billion in revenue in 2016. The company recently introduced the Redmi Note 4, and Jain expects the company to sell 7 million units of the handset going forward. Under the new role, Jain will be planning to expand the company's sales in the offline space where Chinese competitors hold significant lead.
