Trump calls Google CEO Sundar Pichai a ‘monster’ at White House AI meeting

US President Donald Trump has been quite vocal about the artificial intelligence upgrades. And now he is once again in the headlines for making an unusual exchange with Google CEO Sundar Pichai during a White House meeting with leading technology executives. While speaking to reporters after a lunch with AI leaders on Tuesday, Trump described Pichai as a “monster” and joked that people outside the technology industry may not know who he is.

During the interaction, Trump invited Pichai to say a few words but interrupted him shortly after the Google CEO began speaking. Trump then pointed to Pichai and described him as a monster, adding that the public may not realise who some of the technology leaders standing alongside him are.

Trump also joked about the lifestyle of major tech executives, saying they did not have to face reporters every day. Pichai appeared to take the comment in good humour and later joked that he hoped monster would be a better tagline for him. Trump then reminded reporters to remember Pichai’s name, saying, “Sundar is his name.”
Trump tells Anthropic CEO to ‘be careful’
Interestingly, Trump also exchanged a few words with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. After asking Amodei to stand beside him, Trump told reporters that the Anthropic chief had only said okay before turning to him and saying, “Be careful.”
Amodei laughed before stating the importance of the US maintaining its lead in AI. He also stressed that technology companies need to work together to ensure AI development remains safe.
White House unveils AI safety agreement
The interactions took place alongside a White House meeting attended by executives including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and OpenAI President Greg Brockman. Trump also unveiled a voluntary AI agreement focused on safety measures. The framework calls for companies to introduce safeguards including internal monitoring and independent audits of AI systems during development and deployment.
The agreement is voluntary rather than a federal regulation. It comes as AI companies face increasing scrutiny over autonomous agents, cybersecurity incidents and the potential consequences of AI systems operating with greater independence.
