Senior NASA scientist says alien life will be found within 30 years
HIGHLIGHTS

Ellen Stofan says we have the technology and we know where to look, which is why he thinks we should find alien life within 30 years.

How old are you? Are you going to be alive in the next 20-30 years? If your answer to that is yes, then you may be able to witness the discovery of sentient life in outer space. According to NASA chief scientist Ellen Stofan, humanity is on the cusp of discovering alien life within that time frame.

In a panel discussion on NASA’s efforts to find alien life, Stofan said, “I think we're going to have strong indications of life beyond Earth within a decade, and I think we're going to have definitive evidence within 20 to 30 years,”

Further, according to Stofan, NASA knows where it needs to look and how to do so. He said that the technology exists and “we’re on the path of implementing it”. His viewpoint was seconded by John Grunsfeld, associate administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate and a former astronaut.

The space agency has found encouraging signs in this direction before. The Curiosity rover, had earlier found organic molecules containing Carbon and ‘fixed’ Nitrogen on the surface of Mars. These two make the basic ingredients for sentient life.

Further, the theory of the universe being never ending and there being numerous planets and stars means that one of these planets may also be habitable. Well, whatever be the case, you need to wait for only about 20-30 years more to find out.

Oh, and since we in the Digit team, are going to be around that long, we really hope the alien life looks like this.

And not like this,

We would love to hear how you think these aliens would look. Please leave your ideas in the comments below or on our Facebook page.
