Microsoft will give 2 million Indians AI training, says CEO Nadella

To survive and thrive in the future, one should have great knowledge of AI and should know how to use it in the best possible way, and how to spot and avoid misuse. For this, AI training becomes a crucial need for us. Keeping this in mind, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced an initiative that will train two million Indians in AI skills by 2025.

The announcement was made during Nadella’s recent trip to Mumbai and is a part of Microsoft’s bigger Skills for Job initiative. It is at par with its responsible AI principles. The program is called ADVANTAG(I)GE INDIA and aims to speed up India’s AI transformation, as well as prepare the workforce for jobs in the future.

Microsoft aims to implement the program in India in collaboration with the government, non-profit firms and businesses across the country. It was informed that the essential thought behind the program is to bridge the gap between Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, while also focusing on rural areas at the same time. This will be done to ensure a more inclusive AI progress and awareness.

Speaking on the matter during his Mumbai visit, Nadella said “I hope consensus emerges and that is what really helps, in some sense, (with) the diffusion of this technology,” referring to global efforts to regulate AI. He added that he hoped the distribution of AI across would lead to “equal distribution of economic growth.”

To provide basic AI training to 500,000 students and job seekers in 100 rural vocational education institutions and training centers, Microsoft has partnered with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and 10 state governments. More such partnerships have been made to fulfill the goal.
