Tech billionaire Elon Musk took X to confirm that he will be visiting India later this year following a call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This visit is expected to be a watershed moment in India’s business landscape, with potential discussions about Tesla’s India entry, the official Starlink satellite internet announcement, and new technological developments in the country.

PM Modi also revealed that he discussed “collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation,” to which Elon Musk responded, “I am looking forward to visiting India later this year!”.

For those who are unaware, Starlink and Tesla have already declared their intentions to expand into India and are presently preparing for their debut there. By the third quarter, Tesla reportedly plans to ship the first shipment of high-end EVs to major Indian cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai. According to the reports, Tesla is reportedly looking into potential locations for its showrooms in Delhi and Mumbai and has been hiring there. However, higher import duties continue to pose a challenge and could be a part of the discussion.

Alongside Tesla, Musk’s Starlink project is inching close to India launch. Previously, the company announced the collaboration with Indian telecom giants Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio. Currently, the company is waiting for the necessary regulatory approvals to begin operations. The Musk-led company can be beneficial for individuals who live in remote and rural areas where conventional broadband is limited.

Lastly, Elon Musk’s social media platform X has become involved in a legal battle in India over the government’s interpretation of IT laws and content regulation, complicating his larger plans in the country.

Furthermore, Musk’s upcoming visit to India could have an impact on the ongoing US-India tariff negotiations, given his close ties to former US President Donald Trump.
