ChatGPT may get Find in chat option, Plugin hub and other new features

HIGHLIGHTS

OpenAI is reportedly testing several new features for the ChatGPT Android app.

One of the most useful additions is a new Find in chat option.

The company is also said to be working on a Plugins section.

ChatGPT may soon become much easier to use, especially for people who have long conversations with the AI. According to a report by Android Authority, OpenAI is testing several new features for the ChatGPT Android app, including a search tool for chats, a new plugin hub and improvements to file management. The unreleased features were found in version 1.2026.146 of the ChatGPT Android app. While these features are not officially available yet, they provide a glimpse of what may be coming in future updates.

One of the most useful additions is a new Find in chat option. The feature reportedly appears inside the three-dot menu and allows users to search for specific words or phrases within a conversation. This could save a lot of time for users who regularly have lengthy chats and struggle to find information shared earlier in a discussion.

It’s important to note that finding text within a chat thread was already possible on the web using the handy Ctrl + F shortcut. However, on smartphones, locating specific messages isn’t as straightforward without a dedicated search feature like this.

OpenAI also appears to be working on a cleaner way to organise ChatGPT’s tools. Currently, tapping the plus button opens a long list of options such as Deep Research, Thinking, Web Search and Create Image. The report suggests these tools may soon be grouped under a new Plugins section.

Apart from this, the app may receive new List and Grid view options. The report also mentions support for selecting multiple files at once in the ChatGPT Library, which could make file management more convenient. Another upcoming feature could let users attach files from their ChatGPT Library to other chats using the ‘@’ symbol.

At the moment, there is no official word on when these features will be released. However, if they make it into a future update, they could significantly improve the overall ChatGPT experience.
