You can play Assassin’s Creed Shadows for free but there is a catch

When Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched last year, it received a lot of flack from the gaming community. From drawing comparisons from Ghost of Tsushima to being criticised for its historical representation and storyline, the game was at a point of time making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Perhaps that is why a large section of fans never experienced the game. If you also belong to this set of people, pay attention. You now might just get the chance to play the game for free. But as it is with cases like these, there is a catch.

Play Assassin’s Creed Shadows for free

Ubisoft has announced a limited-time free trial for its Ubisoft+ Premium subscription service, as per a report in GameRant. The trial begins on June 18 and runs until June 23. This means that PC and Xbox players can sign up for the service and access its entire library at no additional cost. And guess what game is in this library? Yep, Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The offer also includes access to the recently released Claws of Awaji expansion of the game, giving you a chance to experience the latest chapter in the franchise.

Moreover, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is not the only title available as part of the promotion. You can also access several other Ubisoft games including Star Wars Outlaws, Rainbow Six Siege, The Division 2, Far Cry 6, For Honor and more.

The promotion begins at 6:00 AM PDT on June 18 and will remain active until 6:00 AM PDT on June 23. Players can sign up through Ubisoft Connect, the Ubisoft Store, or Blacknut once the offer goes live.

But, what is the catch?

As exciting as free games sound, there is one important detail you need to keep in mind. Ubisoft requires users to enter valid payment information when signing up for the trial.

The company will not charge users during the free access period, but subscriptions will automatically renew once the trial ends. This means anyone who does not wish to continue with Ubisoft+ Premium will need to cancel their membership before June 23 to avoid being billed the regular monthly subscription fee. So, if you don’t wish to concur any charges, do remember to cancel the membership before June 23. This also means that you will roughly have a week to play the game, which might not be enough for some to finish it.

On the other hand, this time will still be more than enough time to see what the title has to offer and decide whether it deserves your hard-earned money or not.

PS: Since Ubisoft+ Premium is currently available only on PC and Xbox, PlayStation players will not be able to take advantage of the free trial.
