CS2 Major 2024 Grand Finals – NAVI start strong against FaZe

FaZe walked into this match, as the hometown favourites, thanks to their Danish IGL, Finn ‘karrigan’ Andersen. Having won the PGL Antwerp Major 2022, they were looking to add another Major trophy to their cabinet. However, NAVI, led by another Fin, this time by nationality though, Aleksi ‘Aleksib’ Virolainen, had other plans. They were out to increase their Major trophy count with the PGL CS2 Major 2024 win, having claimed the first CS:GO Major after the pandemic, held in Stockholm in 2021.

The proceedings started with the two sides facing off on Ancient, FaZe’s pick. After winning the opening two rounds of the first half, FaZe’s performance rolled off, as NAVI, riding on some insane fragging by Valeriy ‘b1t’ Vakhovskiy, marched on! The map came to an end with b1t having played some of the best CS we have seen in the tournament and the scoreline reading 13-9 in NAVI’s favour. Having won FaZe’s pick, NAVI were looking poised to take home a 2-0 win, and along with that, the trophy of the PGL CS2 Major 2024.

FaZe bounce back, but NAVI have the last smile

However, come map 2, NAVI’s pick, Mirage, FaZe showed what they are made of. They won 10 rounds in the first half, compared to NAVI’s 2, and rounded off the map, three rounds into the second half, with the scoreline reading 13-2. The game was on! The Grand Finals of the PGL CS2 Major 2024, hence was the first tournament decider since 2018 to go into the third map.

Back then in 2018, it was Inferno that decided the winners of the Major. And, poetically, history repeat itself 6 years later, as we held on to see who would win the first CS2 Major! However, once the players spawned into the map, it was clear that NAVI were headed home with this Major trophy. FaZe managed to win only three rounds, compared to 13 of NAVI, not being able to withstand the assault from jL and b1t.
