Patanjali’s instant messaging Kimbho app was set to make a comeback on August 27 but it has been delayed for now.
Patanjali's 'Kimbho' chat app that was set to launch on August 27 will now be unveiled at a later point of time, Acharya Balkrishna, Managing Director of Patanjali Ayurved Ltd & Co-Founder of Patanjali Yogpeeth Haridwar, has announced on Twitter. The ‘Swadeshi’ chat app, which is being marketed as a rival to WhatsApp and WeChat, is expected to be available on both Android and iOS. On August 15, Balkrishna had made an announcement stating that the app, which was taken down because of security concerns, will relaunch on Google Play Store and iOS on August 27.
Clearly, the launch of the app was delayed and Balkrishna tweeted today saying, “We appreciate your excitement over official launch of @KimbhoApp we inform you that trials, review & upgradation is in process to make #Kimbho most safe, convenient & secure #Swadeshi app of your first choice. We will announce new date of official launch asap.”
Renowned French security researcher Elliot Alderson took note of the delay and asked if he could be the part of this trial. Previously, Alderson busted the app and claimed that it is a complete rip-off of another application on the Apple’s App Store called ‘Bolo Messenger’ and that he was able to access messages of all users on the Kimbho app.
Earlier this year, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's Patanjali had published Kimbho, but the app was nowhere as secure as it should have been. Following Alderson’s discovery of security issues, the Kimbho app was taken down from the Play Store. The app is owned by Patanjali Communications and its developer Appdios, was the one who published the Bolo Messenger app in 2015. Patanjali claims that Kimbho witnessed 1.5 lakh downloads in the first three hours when the trial version of the app was put on Google Play Store and App Store. Kimbho is a Sanskrit word and according to Patanjai's spokesperson SK Tijarawala, it means “How are you? or What's new?"
