OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT Projects are now available to free users, giving everyone access to a smarter way of organising their work in ChatGPT. Projects act like digital workspaces where users can keep everything related to a task or long-term effort in one place. Instead of jumping between separate chats, users can group conversations, upload reference files, and set custom instructions.

One of the biggest advantages of Projects is built-in memory. This means ChatGPT remembers all the chats and files saved within a project.

Along with making Projects available to free users, OpenAI is rolling out several new improvements. The updates include:

Larger file uploads per project (up to 5 for free users, 25 for Plus users, 40 for Pro/Business/Enterprise users).
You can now choose colours and icons for more customisation.
Project-only memory controls for more tailored context.

The new features are already live on the web and Android app, with iOS roll out coming soon.
