In the past few years, the number of SIM card frauds has constantly been increasing, with scammers stealing your details. There are possibilities that someone could use your UID number while you’re totally unaware of it. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has launched a tool through the Sanchar Saathi portal under its TAFCOP system, enabling users to check how many SIMs are registered against their name.
SurveyNotably, the government of India has made it mandatory to link your Aadhaar card to your mobile number, and one Aadhaar can be registered with up to nine active SIMs across India, with a cap of six in Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and North Eastern states. Here’s how you can check how many SIM cards are registered to your mobile number.
How to check the number of SIM cards linked to your Aadhaar card
- Go to the Sanchar Saathi portal at sancharsaathi.gov.in.
- On the homepage, head to the ‘Citizen Centric Services’ section and tap on ‘Know Your Mobile Connections’.
- Now, enter your 10-digit mobile number and the captcha code.
- You will receive a one-time password (OTP) to your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP.
- Once done, a list of all mobile numbers registered with your identity documents (like Aadhaar).

What to do if you find any suspicious or unknown numbers linked to your account
If you spot an unfamiliar number, you can flag it as “Not My Number” to get it disconnected or “Not Required” for any older SIM that is not working anymore. Once you complete the process, the numbers will be deactivated based on your report. Those having more than 9 SIM cards registered in their name will receive a notification via SMS.
