vivo’s next big thing comes in a surprisingly slim package – launching on 14th July

There’s a kind of quiet confidence in how vivo is approaching its next release – the X200 FE. The teasers haven’t been loud, but they’ve been specific. Trendy colours. ZEISS-branded cameras. A Trapezoidal Prism Periscope with an M-shaped Optical Path Design. A 6500mAh battery. Flagship-grade performance in a device that, on paper, sounds unusually compact.

“FE” here stands for Fashion Edition. That might raise eyebrows, especially for those used to seeing “FE” as shorthand for toned-down flagships. But vivo’s interpretation is refreshingly different. The X200 FE isn’t just more accessible, it’s also more expressive. From the bold vibrancy of Amber Yellow to the calming sophistication of Forest Blue, and the quiet elegance of Luxe Grey, this phone is unapologetically stylish.

These colour choices reflect a deeper design philosophy aimed at users who see their phone as an extension of their personal identity. It’s youthful, fashion-forward, and confidently distinct.

We’ve seen vivo’s X-series evolve over the years into a reliable playground for high-end camera tech and thoughtful design. The X200 FE with a fashion-forward identity seems to be taking more of a creative direction while also retaining X200’s camera capabilities. This looks like an exciting phone that will resonate with a new generation of users who expect both performance and personality from their devices.

Compact, but not compromised

Here’s where things get interesting. vivo is leaning hard into the idea of a phone that’s compact without compromising on flagship specs. That’s not a claim you hear often in today’s market, where most high-end devices have grown to sizes that demand two-handed use.

With the X200 FE, vivo is suggesting that it’s possible to have the “best of” experience – design, camera and performance – wrapped in a form factor that doesn’t overwhelm. And while that’s a bold claim, it’s also one that many users must be quietly hoping for. This should spark a wider conversation about usability and ergonomics in premium phones.

And despite its slim and stylish profile, the X200 FE doesn’t shy away from durability. With IP68 and IP69 ratings, it’s equipped to handle more than just the occasional splash or dust storm. We’re talking about resistance of up to 100 bars of high-pressure steam and extreme 80°C hot showers.

Trusted ZEISS Optics for mobile photography

Imaging has always been the X-series’ strong suit, and the X200 FE seems to be continuing that trend. vivo has confirmed the presence of a 50MP ZEISS main camera and a 50MP ZEISS telephoto camera, complete with an M-shaped optical path in the periscope module, which will help make the device slimmer without sacrificing zoom capability.

There’s also confirmation of ZEISS Multifocal Portrait Mode, Street Photography Mode, and a suite of vintage film-style filters. These are features we have always appreciated on vivo phones before, particularly in the flagship X-series range.

The ZEISS Multifocal Portrait mode, for instance, allows users to choose between various focal lengths for portraits, mimicking the effect of switching prime lenses on a DSLR. Combined with ZEISS Style Bokeh, it gives you the flexibility to craft images with different moods.

The Street Photography Mode is another vivo staple that elevates everyday shooting. With its quick shutter response, tuned exposure settings, and colour science optimised for urban life, it’s a feature that encourages spontaneous documentation of moments.

Then there are the Vintage Film Imaging Styles, designed to capture more than just the subject. These filters emulate the look of classic film photography, subtly shifting tones and textures to evoke a sense of time and place.

This aligns well with the current trend of phones becoming tools for storytelling, especially among younger users who value both authenticity and aesthetics. If vivo’s previous camera systems are anything to go by, the X200 FE might end up offering one of the more refined imaging experiences in its class.

Performance to power through everything

One of the most common trade-offs in slim, stylish smartphones is performance and battery life. But with the vivo X200 FE, that assumption is being quietly challenged. The device is clearly engineered to go the distance.

It all starts with the battery – a massive 6500mAh. This is a number we usually associate with rugged phones or power-hungry gaming devices. But vivo’s using 3rd-gen silicon anode technology, suggesting that this capacity comes without the usual bulk. Fast charging support at 90W rounds out a hardware setup that seems unusually robust for a compact phone.

Complementing that powerhouse battery is the 3.4 GHz Dimensity 9300+ chipset inside the X200 FE, which is a noteworthy choice. With its 4+4 big-core CPU architecture and TSMC’s 4nm process, this is an extremely powerful chipset. Pair that with UFS 3.1 storage, and you have a device that should feel fast, responsive, and ready for creative tasks or gaming sessions.

With these numbers, we’re assured of a device that’s built for heavy, real-world use and reliability. And then there’s Funtouch OS 15, which brings Google’s Gemini AI assistant into the mix. These are tools that will help you keep up and also elevate your productivity and creativity.

Think small. Expect big.

There’s no need to overthink it – the vivo X200 FE just looks like a genuinely exciting phone. It brings together a compact design, flagship-level features, and the kind of everyday usability that people actually care about. From ZEISS-powered imaging to serious battery and performance chops, it feels like vivo has been listening closely to what users want and responding with a device that doesn’t overdo it, but doesn’t hold back either.

We’ll know more soon, of course. The X200 FE officially launches on July 14, with the event kicking off at 12 noon. If the teasers are any indication, this is one reveal worth tuning in for.
