Here's how the V25 Pro stand against the Nord 2T and Reno 8

The Vivo V25 Pro has officially launched in India as the latest phone in Vivo’s V-series of phones priced under Rs 40,000. The Vivo V25 Pro is powered by the Dimensity 1300 chip which pits it directly against the OnePlus Nord 2T and the Oppo Reno 8, both of which are powered by the same processor. So, does the V25 Pro have enough firepower to prove its mettle against the competition? That’s what we will find out by the end of this article where we compare the V25 Pro with the Nord 2T and the Reno 8.

Vivo V25 Pro

Vivo V25 Pro vs OnePlus Nord 2T vs Oppo Reno 8: Pricing

The Vivo V25 Pro has been released in India priced starting at Rs 35,999 for the base variant with 8GB+128GB storage and Rs 39,999 for the 12GB+256GB storage option. The Nord 2T, meanwhile, starts at Rs 28,999 for the base 8GB+128GB model and Rs 33,999 for the 12GB+256GB storage option. The Reno 8, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 29,999 for the sole 8GB+128GB model.

As you can see, the V25 Pro is being offered at a markup price of around Rs 35,000 whereas the Nord 2T and Reno 8 are priced well below Rs 30,000 in India.

OnePlus Nord 2T

Vivo V25 Pro vs OnePlus Nord 2T vs Oppo Reno 8: Design and Display

The Vivo V25 Pro has a glass build and the middle frame is high-quality plastic with a glossy finish. The highlighting bit about the design of the V25 Pro is that its back panel changes colour on exposure to UV light or direct sunlight. But this is only available with the Sailing Blue colour and not the Pure Black colour. It measures 8.6mm in thickness and weighs 190 grams. The back of the phone tapers on the edges which gives a great in-hand feel. Though the phone doesn’t have an official IP rating, Vivo claims that the V25 Pro is resistant to drops, scratches and sweat.

The Nord 2T measures 8.2mm in thickness and weighs 190 grams and has a similar build as the V25 Pro. But, the Oppo Reno 8 is the lightest and thinnest of the lot with a weight of 179 grams and a 7.7mm thickness. The Reno 8 has a flat-edge design with a rather wide chin that just isn’t as immersive as the V25 Pro and the Nord 2T.

The V25 Pro features a 6.5-inch Full HD+ AMOLED 3D curved display which supports a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ certification. The display has a punch-hole notch cutout in the top centre and has negligible bezels on the sides. The Nord 2T has a 6.43-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display that supports a 90Hz refresh rate and is certified for HDR10+ playback. It has a punch-hole notch cutout in the top-left corner and the screen is topped with Gorilla Glass 5. The Reno 8 also features a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate support but doesn’t support HDR10+ capabilities and is topped with a layer of Gorilla Glass 5.

Oppo Reno 8

Vivo V25 Pro vs OnePlus Nord 2T vs Oppo Reno 8: Under the hood

The Vivo V25 Pro, Nord 2T and the Reno 8 all are powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset that has an octa-core CPU with upto 3GHz core speeds and is paired with upto 12GB RAM and 256GB storage options, save for the Reno 8 which is only being offered in 8GB+128GB combination.

All three phones run on Android 12-based OSes but none support a microSD card for storage expansion. The Nord 2T has stereo speakers while the V25 Pro and Reno 8 skip this key feature altogether. The V25 Pro, Nord 2T and the Reno 8, all have an in-display fingerprint reader. The V25 Pro doesn’t support WiFi 6 like the Nord 2T and Reno 8. Only the Reno 8 supports Bluetooth 5.3 while the Nord 2T and V25 Pro have Bluetooth 5.2.

Vivo V25 Pro vs OnePlus Nord 2T vs Oppo Reno 8: Battery

The Vivo V25 Pro has a slightly bigger battery rated at 4,830mAh over the 4,500mAh batteries in the Nord 2T and the Reno 8. However, the V25 Pro only offers 66W fast wired charging while both the Nord 2T and the Reno 8 support 80W fast charging out-of-the-box.

Vivo V25 Pro vs OnePlus Nord 2T vs Oppo Reno 8: Cameras

The V25 Pro, Nord 2T and the Reno 8, all have triple cameras on the back. The V25 Pro has a 64MP main camera with an f/1.9 aperture and OIS while the Nord 2T has a 50MP camera with f/1.9 aperture and OIS. The Reno 8 also features a 50MP primary camera but doesn’t support OIS.

The V25 Pro has a 12MP ultra-wide camera with 120-degree FOV while the Nord 2T and Reno 8 both have an 8MP ultra-wide camera with 120-degree and 112-degree FOV respectively. The V25 Pro and the Reno 8 have a 2MP macro camera while the Nord 2T has a 2MP depth sensor. All three phones can do 4K recording at 30FPS and 1080p at upto 60FPS.

On the front, all three phones have a 32MP selfie camera with the Nord 2T and Reno 8 supporting 1080p recording and the V25 Pro supporting 4K video recording in HDR.

Vivo V25 Pro vs OnePlus Nord 2T vs Oppo Reno 8: Early Thoughts

The Vivo V25 Pro presents a strong balance of features but it’s very early to say whether it will be able to top up the likes of the Nord 2T and the Reno 8 in the sub-Rs 40,000 price range. The design is something that has found its takers and will definitely grab eyeballs with its chameleon-like finish. The display and cameras are an area where I believe the V25 Pro can prove its mettle but we’ll reserve our verdict for our full review.
