So, without further ado, let’s check these shows out.
Kota Factory
One of the more ‘slice of life’ web series on Youtube. Kota Factory isn’t your typical ‘Bollywood-ized’ show. The series takes a more grounded approach to life and has a very old-school aesthetic to it with the black and white presentation adding to the charm of the show. The series follows the life of a young man as he preps to get into an IIT close to his city. The show is a telling look at the trauma and pain that students have to put themselves through all for a piece of the educational pie. Check it out for some really relatable storylines.
Bachelors
Ahhh, the show for single men! Bachelors is as funny as it is relatable. The story of four young men dealing with the madness that life in a big city can throw at you is pretty much the story for 90% of young men looking to make it in a metropolis. The show is funny and relevant and the references to Indian pop culture did not go unnoticed as well. The four main leads are also great in their respective parts and really add a dash of authenticity to the show.
Little Things
One of the more ‘unrealistic’ shows, Little things still manages to be cute, quirky and heart-warming all thanks to the two charismatic leads. The show essentially tells the story of a young 20-something couple who are living together and the daily grind that they face. Some of the show is a little too much in terms of believability but as we said before, the two leads manage to take a tired trope and turn it into something fresh and quirky.
Pitchers
We’ve all wanted to quit our jobs and start something on our own but rarely do we get to achieve those dreams as life quickly gets in the way. That’s not the case with Pitchers as we get to live vicariously through the four main characters who all quit their jobs to start their very own company. Cue the laughs as the show does a great job of showing us the craziness of it all. A true hit, Pitchers is not only funny but also incredibly entertaining.
Man’s World
A true ‘fantasy’ show, A Man’s World tells the story of a man who is inexplicably transported to a world where the feminist fantasy is true and women have taken the place of men. The show is silly but does have a silver lining in the performance of its lead actor. It tries too much to have some sort of political message but shines when it’s just the main lead doing his thing. Watch it for the performances but leave the political agenda aside, you’ll have way more fun then.
Baked
One of the first big hits in the Youtube space, Baked is the granddaddy of the Youtube web series. The story follows three stoners who have the brilliant idea of late-night delivery only to meet some king od resistance every step of the way. Whether it’s self-sabotage or just plain idiocy, these three go through the adventure of a lifetime. The show is funny, contemporary and does a great job of pulling you into the world of these hilarious characters.
Star Boyz
Talk about Indian comedy and Star Boyz should be on any list. Star Boyz follows three South Indian space cadets as they travel the stars and shoot the sambar with each other. It also helps that the three leads are incredibly funny and just get the whole ‘South India’ vibe right. It’s not the most serious show out there and thank god for that. Star Boyz is a fun-filled trip through space that’ll have you rolling on the floor.
