Epic Games' Battle Breakers recently made a global launch and is essentially a cross-platform gacha RPG game. It is a sci-fi dream game that takes place in a universe where technology and magic live in harmony, and allows you to build a team of unique heroes (over one hundred of them) to save your planet from the invasion of space monsters. The game is powered by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4, which shows off its ability to render a vibrant cartoon art style.

What makes it stand out however is its unique battle system. During combat, you have a grid of crystals on the screen. Tapping these crystals reveals things behind them, be it items, enemies, buffs etc. The heroes are collectible and have special abilities that are usable during battle.
When dealing with enemies, there's a rock-paper-scissors type situation going on, but with fire nature and water. There's also light and dark which counter each other. Every hero is linked to one element and is stronger vs its weaker element and vice versa. The principles of the game are straightforward. The player must amass heroes with various alignments and put together a party to best their next opponent. However, it gets complex in action. Progressing through the game grants you levels and each level allows you to choose new passive bonuses that apply to all your heroes. There are over a hundred different passive bonuses to choose from. The game also features a 'Hero Helper', which basically adjusts your team comp to counter enemies you'll face in a stage. This makes it a handy addition for newer players in this genre.
The visuals of this game are very good. Character design looks fluid, and the art style fits the themes of the game. The heroes have a lot of details, however they do retain their anime-esque appeal. The battle animations are top-notch and overall the visual aspects are very pleasing for most gamers. The atmosphere, and ambience are even better. As soon as you start the game you will hear its catchy, Power Rangers-esque theme song. It will hype you up for the next battle and also the suspense of collecting new heroes is thrilling.
Battle Breakers Verdict
Battle Breaker also features some funny writing and even a theme song that's very cheesy. It's fun though, and offers unique gameplay. Definitely worth checking out if you enjoy gacha games.
