Apple AirPods 5 vs AirPods 5 wireless charging variant: What do you get for the extra Rs 3000?
Apple has launched the AirPods 5 in two variants, giving buyers a choice between a standard model and one that comes with a wireless charging case. Both retain Apple’s familiar half in-ear design and offer improved computational audio and Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). The higher-end version costs Rs 3000 more in India, but the difference is not just about how you charge the case. So, what exactly changes between the two variants, and do those extras matter enough to justify spending more? Let us find out.
SurveyPrice and availability
The AirPods 5 cost $129 (about Rs 12,600) in the US, while the version with a wireless charging case is priced at $149 (about Rs 14,200). This puts the two models $20 apart, with the standard AirPods 5 serving as the entry point into Apple’s latest AirPods range.
In India, the AirPods 5 are available to pre-order today for Rs 14,900, with in-store availability starting Friday, September 18, 2026. The wireless charging case variant costs Rs 17,900 and is also available to pre-order today, with sales starting on September 18.
So the wireless charging version is slightly more expensive, and here’s what you get for paying more:

The key difference is the charging case. Wireless charging may not be as common in India as in the US, but if you already use a wireless charging pad, this can make charging the AirPods 5 more convenient. You can simply place the case on a compatible charging surface and don’t have to hunt for a USB-C cable.

Besides that, Apple highlights that the wireless charging case variant offers up to 5 hours longer battery life(with ANC) because of a reengineered battery. Swiping its stem also lets you control playback volume.
The standard AirPods 5 are the more straightforward choice if you are happy charging your earbuds using USB-C. You get the same half in-ear design, ANC, computational audio and software features as the more expensive variant.
The wireless charging version makes more sense if you already have a wireless charging setup and value the convenience of dropping the case on a charging pad.
