YouTube is testing a new way to make its Premium and Music Premium subscriptions more affordable — by allowing two people to share a plan. This new subscription option is currently being piloted in India, France, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. As reported by Moneycontrol, the two-person YouTube Premium plan is priced at Rs 219 per month in India, while the Music Premium version costs Rs 149 during the testing phase.

“We’re experimenting with new ways to provide greater flexibility and value to our YouTube Premium subscribers, including offering a two-person Premium plan option, allowing two people to share a subscription at a reduced cost,” a YouTube spokesperson was quoted as saying in the report.
YouTube Premium offers a range of benefits such as ad-free viewing, background playback, download videos for offline playback, and early access to new experimental features. On the other hand, Music Premium offers similar perks but is limited to music content.
In India, individual YouTube Premium plans are available at Rs 149 per month, while student and family plans are priced at Rs 89 and Rs 299 respectively. Music Premium is slightly cheaper, with plans starting at Rs 59 for students, Rs 119 for individuals, and Rs 179 for families. The new two-person option sits between the individual and family tiers.
Google has been focusing more on growing YouTube’s subscription revenue in recent years. Earlier, the company cracked down on ad blockers and increased Premium prices in several markets, including India, where rates went up by 12 percent to 58 percent in August 2024.
