Mark Zuckerberg says AI will write most of Meta’s AI code by 2026
Zuckerberg predicts 50% of Meta's AI development will be AI-generated by 2026.
Meta is already using AI tools for code generation, debugging, and optimization.
Microsoft uses AI softwares for around 20-305 of their coding work.
Mark Zuckerberg is betting big on artificial intelligence. After launching the Meta AI app, Meta CEO predicts that the majority of the company’s AI code will soon be written by AI itself. Meta is already using AI tools to assist with code generation and debugging. While most of the companies are planning to integrate AI in its operation, it will be interesting to see how these AI agents can independently write, test, and optimise code. Companies such as Google and Microsoft are also promoting AI-powered tools and platforms for certain projects.
SurveyAt LlamaCon, Meta’s first AI developer conference, Zuckerberg asked Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella how much of the company’s coding is now done by AI. “Around 20 to 30% of the code are probably written by AI software,” Nadella replied. However, Zuckerberg was unable to provide an exact figure when Nadella asked him the same question. By next year, he said, the company wants to have half of its development completed by AI.
It remains unclear whether the proposed target is for Llama or Meta. At the moment, Meta is utilising AI in feed experiments and ad ranking.

Other major companies also try to incorporate AI into the majority of their projects. Recently, Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated at Alphabet’s earnings call that AI now generates more than a quarter of the company’s code.
Meanwhile, Meta recently launched Meta AI, a standalone AI assistant app. The app, powered by the company’s most recent large language model (LLM), Llama 4, is said to provide a more personalised experience. It is available for free on the Google Play and Apple App Stores.
Notably, it is not integrated with WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, or Messenger. Instead, it is a platform specifically designed for AI interactions. The app supports text and audio conversations, as well as image generation and web search functionality.
