HIGHLIGHTS

This build of Android 9 Pie for the OnePlus X and OnePlus 2 isn’t official and has been released by XDA developers

If you have an old OnePlus X or OnePlus 2 lying around, then there is good new for you. Android 9 Pie can now be installed on these smartphones but there is a catch. The Android 9 Pie build for these smartphones isn’t official and comes from XDA developers. The build isn’t bug free and is an AOSP ports of the new Android update. There is a version of Android 9 available for the OnePlus 3 and 3T as well via the XDA developer’s website, but we say hold your horses as OnePlus has said that it will bring Android 9 Pie to the 3 and 3T officially. To recall, the OnePlus X and the OnePlus 2 didn’t even receive the Android N update, so it will be nice to see some of these old devices rocking a new OS. You can download the unofficial Android Pie port for the OnePlus X and OnePlus 2 here.

Overall, 5 OnePlus phones will be updated to Android P officially. These include the OnePlus 3, 3T, OnePlus 5, 5T and the OnePlus 6. On its forum page OnePlus says, “Over the past few months, we have been working closely with Google on the Android P Beta program. Thanks to everyone’s participation and continued feedback, the progress we have made together has been greatly accelerated. The Android P update will be available on the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5/T and OnePlus 3/3T, in this order. We will keep you all updated in the coming months.” You can read more about OnePlus’ official Android updates here
