Samsung is reportedly planning to expand its foldable lineup with a new tri-fold device. While the device has been in the news for some time, it appears that Samsung may bring it to retail shelves soon, but in limited quantities. This follows recent leaks and code discoveries within One UI 8, which indicated that the company is developing a phone with three display segments and two hinges, forming a ‘G’-shaped fold, different from the Z-style fold used in previous foldables such as Huawei’s Mate X series.

According to an animation discovered by the Android Authority, the most recent software build features the Galaxy “G Fold,” a larger foldable design with three panels. The middle segment appears to include the cover display, with the right panel facing inward as part of the structure. It was discovered to have a vertical camera module on the back, common in the lineup.

The animation also includes a warning graphic indicating that not all folds are supported, implying that the hinges are only intended to allow one specific foldable direction. This implies that users are advised not to fold the device in reverse due to structural limitations in the hinge mechanisms.

According to reports, Samsung plans to begin mass production of the tri-fold device in September, with a commercial launch scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. However, availability may be limited, with the initial launch planned only for South Korea and China in limited quantities, with the goal of attracting market interest in the form factor and higher price point.

The Samsung Galaxy G Fold is said to be priced at 4 million Korean Won ($3000), which is roughly equivalent to Rs 2,50,000 in India.

As per the reports, the tri-fold is said to be announced at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 on July 9 where the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are said to be launched. There are also rumours about Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE.
