Samsung Always-On Display now supports GIFs

Samsung Always-On Display now supports GIFs
HIGHLIGHTS

Now you can customize the always on display on your Samsung smartphone to support GIFs. The GIF can be set on the always on display through the gallery

The always on display on Samsung’s smartphones is being updated to support GIFs. This will help you further customize the display on your smartphone. Apart from showing you the time and your notifications, you will also see the GIF you set on the always on display. Version 3.2.26.4 of the app lets you put GIFs on the always on display.

According to GSMArena, “The app only supports GIF files and didn’t animate any images that are in Google’s newer .webp format. Next, if the GIF is too long, the app will prompt you to trim it shorter. Finally, although you’re setting a looping GIF to be the face of your Always on Display, it will only animate once: as soon as you lock the display. It will stay fixed to one frame after the GIF's animation has cycled once.”

The app has been updated to work with Samsung’s flagship family of devices including the Galaxy S8, S8 Plus, Note 8 along with the recently launched S9 and S9 Plus. If you haven’t received the update, you can manually download and install it from here

The Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus recently launched in India. In our review of the S9 Plus, we said, “The Samsung Galaxy S9+ is the best Android smartphone available right. It's looks stunning especially because of the astoundingly bright display and a design that blends the display to the rest of the body. But more than that, this time, Samsung has taken a new approach to improving the low-light performance of the camera. The rear camera can switch between two apertures. The camera, if one knows how to take good photos, can produce some high-quality shots under poor lighting, especially in a restaurant on indoors, but there are limitations. Samsung's aggressive noise reduction algorithms keeps the image from being perfect, but it's a commendable effort nonetheless. You can't go wrong with the S9+. It has everything you want from a top-of-the-line flagship phone — Latest high-level hardware, excellent design, high security, and an excellent camera. Having said that, it isn't much different from its predecessor, the Galaxy S8+, which is now cheaper and hence, a more value-for-money proposition. The Galaxy S9+ is evidence that this is an iterative year for Samsung and if you have been holding out on buying a good Android flagship, this is the one to get right now.”
