Hardware listings on the Google store are referencing something called ‘Nexus Protect’, which could be a protection plan that will be offered for Nexus devices.
New product listings on the Google Store are referencing something called ‘Nexus Protect’. It has been speculated that Nexus Protect will be an extended warranty scheme for hardware that is sold via Google’s own store.
A report by Android Police has pointed out that the reference to Nexus Protect only appears when a user digs into the page source. Once they do, a pop-up appears with the text, “You can’t add this phone unless it has the same Nexus Protect Choice as other phones in your cart. You can update your choice or purchase this phone in your next order. As per the report, the pop-up appeared in nearly all product listing pages. It also says that it is possible that the Google Store is setting up to limit purchases based on Nexus Protect choices. However, the report goes on to warn that this is all speculation that’s based on very little information.
Google has not made any announcement regarding Nexus Protect. If it indeed is Google’s protection plan, it is possible it will announce it alongside the new Nexus smartphones. It has been reported that Google will launch the next generation of Nexus devices on September 29.
Due to the sheer number of leaks, it has more or less been confirmed that there will be two Nexus devices that will be launched by Google. One will be built by LG while the other will be built by Huawei. LG’s version of the Nexus is tipped to come with a 5.2-inch 1080p display with 3GB of RAM. The device could be powered by a Snapdragon 808 processor and will have a 13MP camera primary camera along with a 5MP front facing camera.It will also have a fingerprint scanner and a 2700mAh battery.
Huawei’s Nexus device is rumored to have a larger 5.7-inch screen with 3Gb of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The device could be powered by a Snapdragon 810 SoC and have a fingerprint scanner located below the rear camera of the phone. Both the phones are expected to come with a USB Type-C port and will be the first devices to come with Android v6.0 Marshmallow.
