Moto G7 Play to rock the notch, sport a smaller battery and come powered by the Snapdragon 632: FCC certification reveals
HIGHLIGHTS

The Moto G7 Play was leaked in all its glory on FCC's website. By the looks of it, the phone will get a performance boost, but come with a smaller 3,000mAh battery and sport a notch on the display.

Contrary to earlier rumours, Moto is indeed working on a Moto G7 Play. The phone surfaced on FCC’s website for certification revealing some key details. Earlier, two other Moto devices passed through FCC certification and many presumed this would be the upcoming Moto G7 lineup. With the Moto G7 Play, the line-up seems to be complete and in line with what Moto released this year in the Moto G6 lineup.

The Moto G7 Play has model numbers XT1952 and XT1965, according to Droid-Life that uncovered the story. It will be offered in two colours — Black and silvery blue. The design of the phone is similar to Moto’s recent design chops. Rounded corners, Moto Batwing logo embossed in the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor along with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot along with USB-C port. The Moto G7 Play, it seems, will stick to a single rear camera.

A user guide that leaked alongside the images of the phone leaves no space for doubt. It is indeed the Moto G7 Play. The user guide has a detailed diagram of the front of the phone, and by the looks of it, the Moto G7 lineup will sport the ugly display notches. The notch will house the front camera, speaker and a selfie-flash. The volume rockers and the power buttons are placed on the right side of the phone, while the SIM card tray is on the left. The 3.5mm headphone is placed up top while the bottom of the phone houses the USB-Type C charging port and the microphone.

Further information revealed by the report indicates the Moto G7 Play will have a 3,000mAh battery and will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 chipset alongside Adreno 506 GPU.

Earlier, it was reported that Moto will release the new Moto G7 lineup towards the end of the first quarter of 2019 or in the beginning of the second quarter. The leaked poster had earlier indicated there will only be two phones, with the Moto G7 Play curiously missing. Allaying misgivings, it seems the Moto G7 Play will indeed come to the market. The Moto G7 may run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset while the Moto G7 Plus will be powered by a chipset from the Snapdragon 700 series, probably the Snapdragon 710. There will be two RAM variants on offer — 4GB and 6GB alongside 64GB and 128GB storage variants.

The Moto G7 is expected to sport a 6-inch display with a curved glass back. It will feature thinner bezels and rock a waterdrop notch on top of the display. Besides that, the phones are expected to come with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box.
