HIGHLIGHTS

A report says that LG may launch multiple phones at MWC in Barcelona, and one of the phones could come with a feature that would allow users to attach an extra display to the existing one.

Highlights:

  • LG may launch a phone with an option attach extra display.
  • This phone is reportedly one of the several devices that LG is expected to launch at MWC.
  • It will not be a foldable phone and may not be named the LG G8.

LG may have fallen behind in the smartphone market, but that has not stopped the South Korean company from innovating. A few weeks back, LG was one of the brands that were associated with upcoming foldable smartphones, and now, the company may be working on a new type of phone that will give users an option to attach an extra display to the existing one. This handset is said to be one of the multiple phones that the company is reportedly palnning to launch at the MWC in Barcelona next month.

Citing a person familiar with the situation, CNET reported that the attachment could be a sort of case with a screen and it could potentially double the total screen size of the device. The media outlet also confirmed that this phone will not fold and will be a different device than the foldable one that has been in the news lately. CNET also reported that this phone may not be called the LG G8.

Last year, LG announced that the company will no longer set a regular timeline to launch smartphones. “We will unveil new smartphones when it is needed. But we will not launch it just because other rivals do,” Cho Sung-jin, LG Electronics Vice Chairman, had said. Later, LG India MD, Kim-Ki-Wan stated that the company was taking an internal call on the future of its modular smartphones.

It also announced that it was working on a foldable smartphone but “is not gunning for headlines for being the first company to do so”. LG said that it wants to focus on creating something that consumers really need. Apart from this phone, LG has also patented a smartphone with 16 cameras. As per a report, one might be able to shoot 16 images at once with a single tap and all the images would have different angles.
