Last minute iPhone 7 Plus rumour explains how dual-camera will work
HIGHLIGHTS

The new system will apparently have a wide angle camera, and a telephoto camera.

Apple’s newest iPhone is almost upon us, and there’s a lot to consider. The next iPhone will be launched in the US on September 7 and KGI Securities analyst, Ming Chi Kuo has some last minute updates on how the dual-camera setup works. Kuo is one of the foremost sources on Apple, and has been known to be quite accurate with his predictions. In his latest report, Kuo says the iPhone 7 Plus’ camera will use the two sensors to enable optical zoom. The camera also allows “light field camera applications”. There will be a quad LED flash system with the camera as well.

According to the report, the two cameras include a wide-angle camera and telephoto camera, both with 12MP resolution. It will also have optical image stabilisation (OIS), and a 6P lens. Going by this, it seems Apple’s take on the dual-camera is slightly different from what Huawei used for its P9. That said, the camera still seems to take in more light than regular smartphones, which is good. However, it is unclear whether Apple will be able to combine data from the wide angle camera and the telephoto lens. Of course, while Ming Chi Kuo is often right, he has been known to be wrong as well, and the final camera may still differ.

Further, Kuo’s report says that the new iPhone will “copy” features from the 9.7 inch iPad Pro tablet, and have a wider colour gamut. Powering all this will be Apple’s new A10 chip, which will apparently have a higher clock speed than earlier processors from Apple. The clock speed will see a significant bump to 2.4GHz from 1.8GHz earlier, Kuo’s report says. On paper, this means better single core performance from the processor.

Lastly, Kuo also spoke of new colours for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Apple will reportedly have Dark Black and Piano Black variants, which will replace the regular Space Grey colour. There are new Force Touch sensors in the speaker system, and waterproofing on the device.
