The Blackberry Key2 that launched earlier this year proved to be a good device for users who still crave for a physical QWERTY keyboard, but it’s a tad overpriced considering the hardware you get under the hood. To address that, Blackberry is launching a toned-down version of the phone called Blackberry Key2 LE at IFA 2018 in Berlin.
Blackberry confirmed the launch at IFA 2018 through a teaser video on Twitter, indicating the phone will launch in less than a week.
The phone will retain most of the features of the Key2 including the physical keyboard but will be offered in a more affordable price-tag. A leaked photo earlier confirmed it will look the same, almost. The keyboard seemed to slightly smaller, more in line with the previous Blackberry KeyOne although the shortcut keys will remain along with the fingerprint-sensor integrated in the space bar. However, the capacitive trackpad will not be available in this variant.
Hardware too will be toned-down. According to Android Police, the Key2 LE will be powered by a Snapdragon 636 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM and either 32 or 64GB storage. The display will still be at 4.5-inch with fullHD resolution, same as the Key2.
The camera too will be a downgrade. The Key2 LE will have a 13MP primary shooter paired with a 5MP secondary sensor, most probably for depth sensing. The battery too will be cut down from 3,500mAh to 3,000mAh. With the specs more in line with a mid-ranger now, will the Blackberry Key2 LE prove to be a more attractive proposition? We'll find out soon enough.
