Twitter has reportedly started rolling out the much-awaited “tweet archive download” option, which allows its users to save a cache of all the messages they’ve posted on the micro-blogging service. According to reports, the feature dubbed as ‘Your Twitter Archive’ that was promised to be launched before this year is being gradually rolled out to users. The tweet archive system will be similar to Facebook’s archive option.
The new option comes at the bottom of the settings page on the micro-blogging site. On selecting, Twitter lets you download a ZIP file containing all your posts via an e-mail to your registered e-mail id. According to reports, the archive appears in HTML form. Twitter user Psanta who was among the first note the new option posts: “Your archive may contain sensitive content,” Facebook’s message warns, “so please keep that in mind before sharing it with anyone.”
Earlier this year, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo revealed the tool will be available for general users by the end of this year. “We’ve known for a long time that for events in the real world, the shared experience is on Twitter,” says Costolo. “We want to create an ability to curate those events.” Costolo also defended the company’s recent changes to its API rules, which includes limits for third-party Twitter clients.
