Elon Musk has made headlines again after he clearly denied that SpaceX is entering the smartphone market, following a series of rumours that got attention online. In a post on X, the SpaceX and Tesla chief clarified that the aerospace company has no plans to develop its own smartphone, shutting down weeks of online chatter around a possible Starlink-powered device.
SurveyThe speculation started when the reports suggested SpaceX was exploring the idea of a phone with satellite connectivity, potentially allowing users to connect directly to Starlink without relying on traditional cellular networks. The concept quickly gained traction, with many imagining a device designed for remote connectivity and space-related use cases.
It later gained more eyeballs when Musk replied to an earlier online comment by saying that a SpaceX phone was “not out of the question.” That statement was interpreted as a hint that the company might be developing a product.

He has been vocal about this plan. He previously added that the company would be bringing a very different device than current phones and optimised purely for running max performance, hinting at an AI-first hardware philosophy rather than a conventional camera-and-apps flagship.
Now, Musk’s most recent statement, however, leaves little room for doubt. By stating clearly that SpaceX is not developing a smartphone, he effectively put an end to rumours of a SpaceX-branded phone with Starlink integration.
While Starlink continues to expand its satellite internet services around the world, the company appears to be more focused on partnerships than on launching its own consumer smartphone, at least it seems so.
