John Ternus has officially started his new role as Apple CEO, succeeding Tim Cook. Ternus became CEO on September 1, 2026, while Cook moved into the role of executive chairman of Apple’s board. The leadership change also comes with a new pay structure for both executives. Apple has disclosed that Ternus could receive around $58 million in total compensation for fiscal 2027. This includes his salary and stock awards. Meanwhile, Cook is expected to receive about $47 million in 2027 in his new role. The figures were revealed in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on the first day of Ternus’ tenure.
SurveyJohn Ternus’ Apple CEO salary

According to Bloomberg, Ternus will receive an annual base salary of $3 million as Apple CEO in fiscal 2027. He will receive a stock grant with a target value of $55 million. This takes his expected total compensation to about $58 million.
His 2026 pay will be smaller because he became CEO partway through the year. Ternus will receive restricted stock units worth around $2.5 million on a prorated basis.
Around 75 per cent of Ternus’ equity award will depend on Apple’s performance compared with other companies in the S&P 500. The remaining 25 per cent will come from time-based stock units that “vest semiannually,” as per the report.
How much will Tim Cook earn?
Cook’s compensation will also change after stepping down as CEO. His annual salary will fall from $3 million to $2 million. However, he will continue to receive a large stock award. The target value of his stock package for 2027 is $45 million. This puts his expected total compensation at around $47 million.
Unlike Ternus, only half of Cook’s equity award will be linked to Apple’s performance compared with the S&P 500. According to the report, Cook’s total pay package was $74.3 million in 2025.
Apple has not yet disclosed details of any additional cash bonuses for Ternus or Cook. The company usually provides more information about executive compensation before its annual shareholder meeting.
