It's been 9 years since GTA 5 was released back in 2013 for the PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, XBox One, and PC. It made its way to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S early this year in March, 2022. With that, GTA 5 and GTA Online have existed through three console generations, which is very impressive considering how popular it still is. Over the years, GTA Online has received a lot of content, including new missions, cosmetics, weapons, heists and more. But that's not enough, players have been asking for the next GTA for years now, and Rockstar has finally gone on record claiming that GTA 6 is in the works.
We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.
On behalf of our entire team, we thank you all for your support and cannot wait to step into the future with you!

Take-Two and Rockstar have not revealed an exact release date for GTA 6, and it's honestly too soon to tell. As per a tweet from Stephen Totilo of Axios, Rockstar has at least one IP that's set to release in FY24. If that IP happens to be GTA 6, we can expect the game to release between April, 2023 to March 2024.
Famous Call of Duty leaker Tom Henderson predicted the 2024, or 2025 release for GTA 6 in a YouTube video, which is backed by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier. Neither of them expects the game to release in 2023.
Rockstar has reportedly paused development on Red Dead Redemption and the GTA 4 remasters to dedicate more manpower to GTA 6.
Considering the success of GTA Online, we should definitely expect the same for GTA 6. GTA Online has been a major part of Rockstar's strategy to keep the game alive. It's also regularly updated with new content.
According to a leak, GTA 6' map will be bigger, and possibly will also change and evolve over time, like in Fortnite.
The game is expected to launch across all platforms simultaneously. GTA 5 released on PC after more than a year as a console exclusive release. We don't expect the same to happen with GTA 6. We also don't expect the game to be released on mobile.
The franchise is expected to return to Vice City, a fictional city based on Miami. Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies explained the process of selecting the location for GTA games in an interview, “Where it is going to be set is the first question. That then defines the missions; you’re doing different things in LA than in New York or Miami. The map and story get worked up together, and the story is a basic flow of how it works out so you can layer the mission in.”
