Gemini down: Thousands maybe hit by sudden access issues, company yet to respond

Gemini down: Google’s AI tool Gemini stopped working unexpectedly on Wednesday evening, making it difficult for many users to use the service. People began reporting problems when Gemini would not load or respond properly. Users globally including the United Stated and India said they could not use the chatbot for their daily tasks. The issue appeared without warning and caused confusion among users who rely on the tool for help with writing, questions, and other tasks. Google has not shared full details yet, but the company is likely looking into the problem. Users were quick enough to head to the social media platform to vent out their frustration.

Gemini outage: USA reports

Outage tracking platform Downdetector showed a sharp rise in complaints from users in the United States. At its peak, the platform recorded more than 1,100 reports, indicating that the issue was widespread and affected a significant number of Gemini users.

According to the outage data, most complaints were related to the Gemini app, which accounted for 58 per cent of reports. Website-related issues made up 35 per cent of the complaints, while 5 per cent were linked to automation and workflow features. The sudden spike suggested that the disruption was not limited to a single platform.

Gemini down: India reports

The outage was not limited to the US. Users in India also reported problems accessing Gemini. Downdetector data for India showed that reports peaked at 115 during the disruption.
The pattern of complaints was similar to that seen in the US.

Around 58 per cent of reports were linked to the app, while 35 per cent were associated with the website. Another 5 percent of users reported issues with automation and workflow tools. The data indicated that users across multiple regions were affected at roughly the same time.

Gemini down: Social media reaction

As the outage continued, many users went to X to share their thoughts. Some made jokes, saying that Google engineers were probably working on upgrades to Gemini and that everyone should be patient while they finished the updates.

Others compared the outage to recent AI announcements from competitors, posting jokes about rival companies launching new models while Gemini was unavailable. Several users said they felt ‘lost’ without access to the chatbot, while others simply posted messages saying Gemini had gone down and asked if anyone else was facing the same issue.

What did Google say?

At the time of writing, Google has not released an official statement explaining the root cause of the outage. Hence, for now we have no information when will the servers return to normal.
