Apple October 30 hardware event: What to expect and how to watch livestream
HIGHLIGHTS

Apple is holding an event in New York on October 30. The company is expected to launch updated iPad Pros, a new MacBook Air, Mac Mini and updated hardware for MacBook Pros.

It is that time of the year when we look forward to products from Apple that are not iPhones. The company recently launched the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR and is now gearing up to update its other product portfolio. If information circulating the internet is to be believed, then we will see updated iPad Pros, maybe a budget iPad Mini, updated hardware for the MacBook’s and finally, a new MacBook Air. First things first, the Apple evet will kick off on October 30 10am local time in New York City, which translates to 7.30pm IST on October 30. You can watch the live stream of Apple’s event on your Mac or PC using the Safari browser or on your Apple TV. Users that have Apple products like the iPhones or the iPads can also stream the event on their devices. Those looking forward to watching the event on YouTube will be left disappointed. Let’s break down what the internet is saying about the upcoming Apple devices

More Power to the iPad Pro

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro replaced the 9.7-inch iPad Pro in 2017. However, design wise, the change in display size was the only difference. Under the hood, the 10.5-inch iPad got an upgrade but thats about it. The 12.9-inch iPad in 2017 got a spec refresh keeping the design the same. Two-in-one devices have been sprouting all over the place and if Apple wants to maintain its dominance in the tablet category, it will have to do something new, especially with the keyboard dock. It only holds the iPad in one place and the typing experience is subpar, especially when you compare it to the surface offering. Sure, the touchscreen typing experience on an iPad is still the best when compared to other tablets.

Information circulating the internet suggests that Apple will redesign the iPad to match the new iPhones i.e., remove the home button, have an edge-to-edge display and bring in Face ID. All that sounds good, but I personally like to have some bezel on a tablet device to act as real-estate for a grip. Other information also suggests that the company will opt for a USB-C port in place of a lightning port. This could happen as Apple has already replaced its Magsafe connector for USB-C on the MacBook and MacBook Pro line-up. Maybe we will see USB-C with the iPhone XI as well?

Other information suggests that we will see a new budget iPad in the form of an updated iPad Mini. The 7.9-inch iPad Mini 4 came out in 2015 and is still rocking Apple’s aging A8 chip. It is possible that like the iPhone XR, we will get an iPad mini with some interesting specs under the hood and an average display.

Updated Apple Mac Mini

Another Apple PC that hasn’t been in the limelight for a while is the Mac Mini. The PC hasn’t been updated since 2014-2015. That’s the same time the company announced the first iPad Pro family. The Mac Mini is an ideal HTPC (Home Theatre personal Computer) or even a compact desktop for those looking for a compact machine in a tight workspace. However, the device hasn’t received the attention it deserved. Maybe Apple will redesign the mini PC with new specs, a new design and new positioning in the market?

Successor the Air

One device that everyone has been waiting to see updated is the MacBook Air. The device has had the same design for years with the only update coming in the form of specs under the hood. With devices like the Microsoft Surface Laptop, Dell XPS and more gunning for domination in the thin and light category, it is high time we see an update to the MacBook Air. There is no information as to what we will see with the MacBook Air, however it is on everyone’s Wishlist. Apart from the Air, it is expected that the non-touch bar 13-inch MacBook and the MacBook will also get an update.

Other Apple devices

It is expected that other Apple products like the Apple Pencil that accompanies the iPad, the Air Pods, the Mac Pro and more will receive an update but there is little information from the rumour mills about what these updates could be.
