Apple is reportedly planning to bring the vapor chamber cooling system, first introduced in the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, to future iPad Pro models. The vapor chamber is a liquid-cooling system that helps manage the heat produced by powerful chips. Although companies like Samsung have used similar technology for years, Apple turned it into a key feature in its latest Pro models, presenting it as a major performance upgrade.

In the iPhone 17 Pro models, the vapor chamber prevents overheating during demanding tasks such as gaming or video editing. Previous versions like the iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro often became uncomfortably hot because of their titanium frames. With the new cooling system, Apple’s latest chips can now perform at higher speeds without being slowed down by heat.

Bloomberg reports that Apple is now developing this same technology for the iPad Pro. While tablets naturally have more surface area to release heat, the iPad Pro can still overheat during heavy workloads. As the device becomes more powerful, Apple likely sees vapor chamber cooling as an important improvement.

The company recently launched a new iPad Pro powered by the M5 chip, which some tests show performs similarly to the Mac Studio’s once high-end M1 Ultra processor. Apple is expected to continue boosting the iPad Pro’s performance, with the next model likely to feature the M6 chip made with a 2-nanometer process by TSMC. Apple usually updates the iPad Pro every 18 months, meaning the vapor chamber could appear around spring 2027.

Adding this cooling system would not only improve performance but also help Apple further separate the iPad Pro from the iPad Air as the Air model has been getting closer to the Pro line. The vapor chamber could once again make the iPad Pro stand out as Apple’s most advanced tablet.
