A Google Dictionary silently appears

Not entirely unexpected, but it might have been entierly unnoticed. The new Google is dictionary accessible simply by visiting http://www.google.com/dictionary and supports a wide nuber of languages.

Up till now it has been possible to look for word meaning in Google by prefixing “define:” to the search query, however this is the first they have launched a dedicated interface will possibly their own data source.

The new dictionary has usual kind of light interface that you expect from any Google product, and comes with a quite breadth of languages, and supports cross language lookups. The Google Dictionary comes with a list of 28 languages, and allows for inter-language lookups between English and any other language, while a few such as Chinese, Russian, German etc have their own.

The dictionary also allows you to “star” words to add them to your list of favorites, and it maintains a record of all your word searches in Google Web History is you use it. After each meaning you will also find a listing of other dictionaries where you can find the word.
