Microsoft serves takedown notice to those hosting leaked Xbox 720 document

It was just a few days ago that the gloriously detailed 56-page document containing the information about Microsoft’s plans for the future of their gaming division was leaked. The leak contained information that pointed towards a 2013 launch for the Xbox 720 along with details about the Kinect 2 and Microsoft’s Augmented Reality glasses for the Xbox.

Well, if you haven’t had the pleasuring of going over the information in that leaked Xbox 720 document, you are now officially out of luck. The Redmond outfit’s team of internet investigators along with their legal department have been busy sending takedown notices to various websites that host or display the leaked file. Even the popular cloud storage provider Dropbox has been a recipient of said takedown notices. Whatever said and done, Microsoft’s actions do confirm the legitimacy of the document.

Frankly, we’re not surprised that these notices are being sent out, given how hush-hush Microsoft has been about the future of its gaming console, but what does strike us as odd is the amount of time they have taken in issuing these notices. Given how fast information spread across the internet and that once it’s online, we can’t help but wonder why Microsoft didn’t make a move sooner.

The Xbox 720 has been long rumoured and highly anticipated. The initial expectation was that there would be an announcement at E3, but Microsoft spoke up and quashed all hopes when they made it very clear that E3 2012 would not be seeing any news related to the next Xbox, which according to many users, is now due for an upgrade. When Microsoft actually decides to push out the Xbox 360 replacement, we don’t know, but what we do know is what we can expect in the next console, thanks to the leak.
